Device Types represent the IoT sensors that are used to collect data and the actuators used to control equipment. Device Types are abstract and not associated with a specific manufacturer or model. They represent the types of data being collected or, in the case of actuators, the actions that can be performed. Device types are associated with Node Groups. It is assumed that each of the compute nodes in the node group are connected to the same device types. Later, when defining a deployment, customizations and exceptions can be made for how many devices of each device type are connected to particular nodes in the node group.
Device Types are used by the Pratexo Streaming Data Simulator. Each Device Type generates a node in the Node-Red Simulator. The node can be used to generate simulated data of that type. For example, if you have a Device Type that represents a Temperature Sensor, then the Simulator will have a node representing the Temperature Sensor. The Simulator user can edit the properties of the node to generate simulated temperature data, for example random data or sine wave data, etc.
