How to create your first Architecture

Created by Peter Norwood, Modified on Tue, 14 Feb, 2023 at 1:49 AM by Peter Norwood

There is a folder called "Reference Architectures". This folder has some architectures that have already been created and are proven to work. They are easy to modify.

  • Create a folder to store your new architecture
  • Then go to the folder "Reference Architectures".
  • Select one of the reference architectures
  • "Save As" and give it a new name
  • "Move" the architecture to the folder you created

Now you are ready to modify the architecture.

  • Go to your new folder
  •  Open the new architecture by selecting it from the list in your folder
  • Use the components in the left hand navigation of the Design Studio to add components to the architecture
    • You can add new Device Types by selecting Device Types
      • remember to draw a connection from the node group with the device connector software to the new Device Type
    • You can add a new feature from the Features list
      • You may want to add a route to/from your new feature to/from another feature
      • You can change the attributes of the feature by selecting the feature and accessing the properties panel
    • You can add a whole new Node Group or Micro Cloud as well
      • Make sure to connect them if you plan on having the Micro Cloud manage the nodes in the Node Group

The next step is processing the Architecture.

  • Select the "Process" button to process the Architecture.
  • If the processing is successful you will be put into the Deployment View.

The next step is to create a Simulated Deployment

  • There are two options for creating a deployment - Physical Deployment & Simulated Deployment
    • Pick simulated deployment to test the architecture in a virtual environment
  • Configure the Simulated Deployment
    • Select the number of nodes you want to create as Virtual Machines in the Cloud.
    • Select the type of Virtual Machine you want to use - tiny, small, medium, large, x-large
  • Deploy to the Cloud
    • Select the Deploy button.
    • You will now see a listing of deployments with the new deployment
    • Click on the status field in the deployment listing
    • You will see the status as the deployment progresses.
  • Accessing the Simulator
    • See the help article on "How to access the Simulator"
